Director of Financial Reporting

Northern New Jersey

This position is a Director level opening responsible for the following:

  1. Act as the back-up FINRA series 27 registered Financial & Operations Principal (“FINOP”) to the primary FINOP. This individual will be listed on the firms FINRA form B-D as the back up FINOP, responsible for carrying out any duties or functions of the FINOP that need to be completed. Such activities include: filing required regulatory reports and being the key financial point of contact with auditors or examiners.
  2. Responsible for overseeing the preparation of, and then final review & sign off for the regulatory financial statements & supporting analyses including: Monthly FINRA FOCUS report filing Quarterly SEC 17-H Risk Assessment report Annual audited SEC filed financial statements
  3. Preparation / critical review of monthly GAAP financial statements, corporate DAC elimination entries & supporting analysis to PIM Center & Corporate Controllers, as well as detailed profit center results & analyses for the profit centers. This includes extensive partnering & support with key business unit constituents, as well as other teams within Finance (P&A, Expense, Controllers).
  4. Oversight & detailed review of our client’s weekly SEC Rule 15c3-3 (customer protection) computation & compliance (segregated cash balances wired timely into Special Reserve bank account).
  5. Responsibility for all of the financial reporting aspects of the firms daily mutual funds clearing business activities. Our client is the clearing B-D for 2 major lines of business with approximately $75 billion AUM. Specific duties include:
    • Ensure daily funding is provided to Operations groups as needed
    • Review daily net settlement activity, for clearing business (including approving / recording multiple cash wire payments, Oracle G/L journal entries)
    • Review clearing business B/S account analyses prepared by staff
    • Review supporting information used in the weekly 15c3-3 calculation.
  6. Manage, motivate, develop & supervise a team of 3 - 5 accountants. This includes responsibility for the full year performance management & compensation cycles (objective setting, Individual Development Plans).
  7. Act as the key Finance point person for extensive interaction & partnering with internal and external (internal audit, PwC, and FINRA) auditors & examiners throughout the year.
  8. Coordinate / work closely with Mutual Fund Admin. dept. in reconciling & reporting mutual fund results by individual funds - for monthly, quarterly & annual reporting purposes (monthly SOC, annual profitability reporting to Fund Boards, N-SAR & N-CSR processes).
  9. Partner with the FINOP to ensure on-going compliance with all existing and emerging regulatory requirements of a registered broker-dealer.

 

Job Requirements: Qualifications

  • Series 27 registered FINOP
  • CPA license
  • Minimum 3 years prior experience / working knowledge of B-D accounting & financial reporting
  • Minimum of 9 years overall financial reporting experience The candidate must have a solid understanding of both broker-dealer regulatory, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The candidate must be able to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously.

 

Other qualifications include:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting (advanced professional degree,a strong plus)
  • Solid general understanding of financial markets and investment products
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong PC skills including Excel, PowerPoint and Word (experience with Oracle G/L system a plus)
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of various teams
  • Adaptable to change and transition
  • Strong supervisory experience (minimum 4 years) and ability to lead teams
  • Self-motivated and highly proactive in offering constructive solutions
  • Ability to work overtime required during peak periods
  • Public accounting & financial services industry experience are both strong pluses
  • Solid financial reporting systems background / ability to work effectively with systems personnel to arrive at solutions.
